Near Optimal Sequence Display - Problems

Unfortunately there are known problems with the near optimal sequence alignment display.

Java

The version of java your machine is running must be 1.3 or greater. You can download the latest version here.

Windows

  1. Make sure you've downloaded and installed a recent version of the Java JRE (Java runtime environment) from Sun. Its also ok if you prefer SDK. You can download everything here. The standard Microsoft Virtual Machine will not work.
  2. Once the JRE is installed, there should be checkbox on the "Advanced" tab of the Internet Options dialog (found in the Tools menu) that asks whether you want to use the Sun JRE for applets. Make sure this box is checked.
  3. If you're still having problems, turn on the Jave Console option (also on the "Advanced" tab of the Internet Options dialog), reboot, open the applet web page, and select show Java Console from the View menu. The Java Console should tell you what version of Java your browser is using and display any error messages.

Apple MacOS 9.x Users

I have never seen this software work for MacOS 9.x (or earlier), nor have I tried to get it to work for that OS. Sorry.

Apple OS X Users

You must be running OS X 10.2 (Jaguar) and you must be must upgrade to the most recent version of Java. If you are running 10.2 you should be able to use the software update facility to do this.

There are known problems in the versions of Java in OS X 10.1 and OS X 10.0 that I am not currently supporting. Large sums of money could change this.
